Palomar Observatory

The Palomar Observatory sits 5500 feet atop the Palomar Mountain and is a research facility and home of five large and impressive telescopes.  They give tours daily, and allow you out to their observation deck, which boasts an incredible view.

The drive itself is worth the trip, and be sure to stop by mountaintop restaurant, Mother’s Kitchen, which serves up yummies like homemade chili, lasagna, or just a good ‘ol fashioned grilled cheese.  It is delicious and has both indoor and outdoor seating.  Also worth checking out: the Palomar Mountain General Store.

And, if you’re keeping an eye out, there’s some great nature to be seen on the drive out.
